Reflective Thinking Practices Among Pre-Service Teachers: Comparison Between Malaysia and Australia

Reflective practices are considered an important part of a pre-service teachers’ (PSTs) professional learning experiences. However, there has been much criticisms on its efficacy as tool for teacher development. This paper will relate study that was designed to compare reflective teaching in two culturally different countries, namely Malaysia and Australia. These countries were chosen they offered opportunity differences thinking from Asian Western cultural perspective among PSTs. The used framework using five constructs: lifelong skills, self-assessment, self-belief, awareness, thinking. sample consisted 387 Malaysian PSTs 378 Australian who enrolled Bachelor level programmes. results clearly indicate while is emphasised the education programmes, conceptualisation process between cohorts very different. Limitations implications practice discussed.
